Make the Frame with Metal Tubing

Sit on the floor. Imagine you’re in the go cart. Use the chalk to draw an outline around your legs. Make it as wide as you want. Usually the width chosen is 2/3 that of the wheel base. A wide wheel base is recommended as it promotes stability. A narrow base will make the car prone to flipping.

Shaping the Tubes

Get the saw and slice the tubing. Get your welding tools and use it on the tubing. Use the notcher to perform the round to round tubing. To build a go cart frame, you must weld precisely especially along the leg area. Next, weld the round tubing to the square area. You can also heat the rounded portion and level it with a hammer.

Install a Roll Bar

Put a roll bar in the front section. Utilize the round tubing to install the roll bar. Set the seats a couple of inches from the ground. This will keep the machine from flipping over when driven.

How to Make the Frame with Angle Iron

Start by visualizing and jotting down the measurements. Use your saw to cut off the appropriate sections. If necessary, heat the parts to bend them. When it’s bended at the right shape, weld it. Always keep the outline you drew in mind so you can build a go cart frame. Let it serve as a guide when you are bending and welding iron.

Add some filler material to fortify the iron. You can use the iron for the whole machine or for the bended components only.

Tips and Warnings

A chop saw is the best tool for this project. If you don’t have one, use a hacksaw. There are also different types of welders you can use. Be careful when using the saw and welder. Some people have been known to get sick when welding electrical parts. If you want to build a go cart frame but get sick, get a professional to do the welding.

Wear eye protection when welding. Keep your face a safe distance from the iron when you’re heating it.

If you’ve never driven a go cart before, take your time learning.
Don’t try to be too aggressive when driving as you might flip the car over. Always wear a helmet no matter how slow you’re going.

Double check the roll bar to ensure it’s implemented properly. If the cart is for kids, make certain that all the parts are welded together firmly. If you have little experience in welding, ask a welder so you’ll learn the basic process.

You don’t need to be a car mechanic to build a go cart frame. The tools you need are available in hardware stores. With some patience and planning, it won’t be long before you start racing in your go cart.
